I am Drew, but I go by the handle Stem, I am a husband, father, dog (and unfortunately) cat owner – I grew up in South Florida and have spent time in NYC, Upstate NY, Atlanta GA and now make my home is a town just south of Charlotte.
The nickname Stem goes way back to 1985 when the pre-cursor to the internet was just getting going – BBSing – which was basically message boards and multi-user online games but most they were dial-up and usually not more than 16 users at a time (most were 1 line) – a “handle” was needed and I loved Daryl Strawberry at the time, but it needed to be 9 letters or less, so I changed the Straw to Stemberry and boom..there you go…now it’s just Stem. The 8 is just my favorite # and whatever sport I participate in, I am 8!
I like to follow sports, though not as much as I used too. Baseball used to be king with me, having grown up a die-hard Mets fan (Mets spelled backwards is… ) but when the greedy owners and selfish player cancelled the World Series, I cancelled my deep down devoted love of baseball..I’ve since gone to Wrigley Field numerous times and have become a Cubs fan, but the love of the game is just not there anymore…Football is king and I follow hockey and NASCAR too, and some college hoops…
BUT….I will ALWAY follow THE U…The Miami Hurricanes – football, baseball basketball – If it’s Orange and Green, it’s for me!
Other passions are the weather and politcs and I can talk about them all day long…
